COMMUNICATIONS
a. The purpose of the Air Surveillance Communications System is to provide a rapid means for the transmission of data on air activity secured by the air surveillance system.
b. The nature of the traffic requires a system of direct communications (wire or radio). The speed of aircraft is such that seconds represent miles when hostile and friendly aircraft are approaching each other. Therefore, the fastest possible means of communication is required to disseminate information concerning their movement. Operational requirements are such that information on all unidentified air activity must be passed to the ADCC by all GCI and EW sta- tions directly under its supervision. This re- quires direct communications from GCI and EW stations to the ADCC. EW stations under supervision of a GCI station report all air activity to that GCI station; therefore, direct communications are required between the subsector EW station and the sector GCI stations to which they report (see fig. 1).
